20 YEARS OF CRUSHING SUCCESS

A Surrey based Waste and Recycling Company, reflects on twenty years of crushing at its Leatherhead base.

D&E Roberts bought their first MB Crushing Bucket from Worsley Plant in 2002 and haven’t looked back since.

Their initial purchase 20 years ago was because they have a small crushing area and no space for a big crusher so back in 2002, a crushing bucket was the best solution, and this trend continues today.

“We continue to be impressed with the MB Buckets.  The benefits we get from them are way beyond our initial expectations.  The figures talk for themselves.  We wouldn’t consider any other option.”

Their Construction and Demolition waste starts off going through their picking belt and it is the left over hardcore and concrete that is crushed, allowing the material to be recycled and reused.  Producing both Type 1 and 2, this provides the company with an additional source of income.   The crushed size is also adjustable to meet customer needs, thanks to the ease with which the tension on the sprint can be released to add or subtract shims to the desired size.

Over the years, they have upgraded the buckets to take advantage of the latest models, and today in March 2022 they took delivery of their fourth MB Crushing Bucket.

D&E Roberts has been established over 30 years.  Since 1998 they have operated from their waste transfer & recycling centre in Leatherhead.  The company provides waste disposal services to a diverse customer base, including householders, builders, landscaping contractors and blue-chip companies.  To meet their ongoing commitment to responsible recycling they continue to invest in ‘state of the art’ waste sorting and separating equipment to process all the waste.

Since buying the previous bucket in 2017, they have crushed over 55,000 tons.    The cost of the new MB BF90 bucket versus the old is £30K and they have worked out they have spent 55p per ton for the capital outlay.

This is a raw cost not including labour and machine maintenance cost, but certainly shows that the upgrade was worth their investment.

Since having the new bucket (less than a month) they have crushed about 1700 tons of material.  (425 a week or 85 a day), so it is already proving more productive, especially as they don’t crush every day.

Dave Roberts, the Company’s Owner adds:

“We continue to be impressed with the MB Buckets.  The benefits we get from them are way beyond our initial expectations.  The figures talk for themselves.  We wouldn’t consider any other option. Recycling is a key consideration for our business, and MB has helped us reduce the waste that goes to landfill and provide an additional revenue stream.  We still work with Worsley Plant after all these years as they offer excellent service and back up.”
