What is a Hydraulic Magnet?

30 Jul 2025

A hydraulic magnet converts the hydraulic power of a carrier machine into powerful magnetic lifting force. Designed as a fully self-contained, all-in-one attachment, hydraulic magnets feature an integrated hydraulic magnet generator, eliminating the need for external power sources or additional generators.

Hydraulic lifting magnets are widely used for scrap handling, demolition, recycling, rail maintenance and material recovery applications across the UK.

How a Hydraulic Magnet Works

A hydraulic magnet utilises the carrier machine’s auxiliary hydraulic system as its power source:

  • Hydraulic oil flow is directed from the machine’s auxiliary hydraulics through the pressure line to the integrated hydraulic magnet generator.
  • The hydraulic magnet generator converts hydraulic oil flow and pressure into DC electricity.
  • This DC electricity powers the lifting magnet for maximum magnetic performance.
  • Hydraulic oil is then returned to the carrier machine via the return line.

The generated DC electricity is used to magnetise and demagnetise the lifting magnet efficiently and safely. During demagnetisation, the system actively pushes the load away from the magnet, ensuring fast and clean material release.
