Cheshire based hire specialists JK Ashbrook breaking ground with Montabert

Experienced in the industry

With over 20 years of purchasing Montabert hammers, Cheshire based hire specialists JK Ashbrook are prime candidates to rate the products.

With their heritage in the farming community, brothers James and Mike took their first tentative steps into the construction contracting industry almost 25 years ago putting their experience of the farming industry to good test.

‘We put everything on the line to make the venture work, putting in the long hours to ensure both the agricultural and construction sides of the business prospered.’ ‘We re-invested profits to expand and always bought the best kit we could afford to make sure it was right for the business.’

James

Loyal to the Montabert brand

This was true with the company’s first Montabert purchases. James and Mike have tried other brands in the intervening years but have remained loyal to the brand. ‘The Montabert breakers were seen as expensive when we first started buying them.’ James comments. ‘There was an influx of Korean products to the market at the time and prices were massively different to what we were paying for the Montabert. But we knew the product was good, we knew Montabert performed as good if not better than anything else on the market and we knew that spares availability was also good. We also knew that if there was a serious issue, the manufacturer would be on hand to discuss it. We also knew that there would be a reasonable resale value for each item compared to the cheaper alternatives being shipped in. It’s no good having a cheap product if it’s broken down and you’re waiting on spare parts. That ultimately affects our business as customers are quick to jump ship if you cannot deliver on all fronts.’

Working with Worsley Plant

Over the years Ashbrook have purchased over 150 breakers of varying sizes with many being supplied by Worsley Plant. ‘Worsley Plant are just down the road from our head office, and it was great to see them being awarded the dealership for Montabert in 2018.’ James comments. ‘We have built up a great working relationship with Sean and Adie over the years and find their back up and service second to none. They are always available if there is an issue, which thankfully is very rare with the product, and there is always a good availability of spares and consumables. We have gone on to buy a range of other products from Worsley to complement our fleet and find them to be great people to deal with.’

Offering an extensive range

With Ashbrook offering a wide and diverse range of machines from micro through to 40t excavators, the range of products they carry is huge. ‘We have breakers to suit every weight class and find them all to be great tools.’ James explains. ‘Our customers like them too. They seem to hit harder and manage even the hardest material with ease.’

Montabert – A slim and lightweight hammer that packs a real punch

One customer working on the outskirts of Manchester was Southport Demolition who are a regular customer for Ashbrook machines. Site Manager Charlie Watts had just taken delivery of a CAT308 excavator equipped with a Montabert SD36 breaker and was very happy with the machine’s performance. ‘Breaking out these brick and concrete garages will be easy for the Montabert.’ He explains. ‘We’ve just been on a project where the same machine was breaking out a 300mm reinforced concrete slab and it just did it with ease. They’re a nice slim and lightweight hammer that packs a real punch.’
