Cardex Contracting Ltd, a trusted name in civil engineering and demolition since the 1960s working across the Northwest, recently faced a regeneration project with heavy below‑ground concrete foundation and brickwork that pushed their existing breaker to its limits. To keep productivity high Will Mole turned to Worsley Plant, the UK’s leading Montabert dealer, for advice.
On a recent regeneration project, Cardex faced stubborn below‑ground structures ranging from brickwork to heavy concrete slabs. Their smaller breaker, mounted on a CAT 320 excavator, had managed lighter work but struggled with the Heavy foundations. With the immediate project in mind and future jobs on the horizon Will Mole decided it was time to invest in a breaker that could deliver lasting performance.
The recommendation was the Montabert V57, a 3.5‑tonne breaker perfectly matched to their CAT 336 and Hitachi ZX490. For Cardex, the choice was about investing once in a tool that would last, rather than risking downtime and repair that will cost you with cheaper alternatives. As owner Will Mole explained.
On site, the V57 quickly proved its worth. Its Variable Energy system automatically adjusted speed from 330-1045 blows per minute and power to match the material, delivering faster breaking while cutting fuel consumption. Operators noticed smoother running, reduced vibration, and fewer interruptions, which meant higher productivity and less downtime. Unlike many breakers, the V57’s design eliminates the need for regular nitrogen checks or refills, simplifying maintenance and keeping the machine working consistently. The TPS anti‑blank fire protects the breaker, the Omni Tracker keeps us on top of working hours and servicing, and the greasing system makes maintenance simple.
As part of the installation, Worsley Plant supplied a bespoke customer plate for Cardex, adding a professional finishing touch to their new setup.
Ross Quinn from Worsley Plant summed it up:
The Impact for Cardex, the impact was immediate. The breaker handled demanding applications with ease, allowing the team to complete the project more efficiently and with greater confidence in their equipment. The combination of Montabert’s engineering and Worsley Plant’s support gave them not just a new tool, but a long‑term solution built for tough work.
